Using Roman numerals is actually a practice of the studios, to disguise a film that's been out for a while. It used to be common to re-release a film a few years after its original release under a new title. The copyright was put in Roman numerals so that it would satisfy the legal requirements but be difficult for the audience to read in the short time it was onscreen.

You probably knew that.
